Professional development

D.K. Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology of the NAS of Ukraine has postgraduate and doctoral courses for training of highly qualified scientific personnel (candidates and doctors of biological sciences).

/Excerption from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: According to "Guidelines for the recognition of Russian qualifications in the other countries", in countries with a two-tier system of doctoral degrees (like Russian Federation, some post-Soviet states, Germany, Poland, Austria and Switzerland), should be considered for recognition at the level of the first doctoral degree, and in countries with only one doctoral degree, the degree of Kandidat Nauk should be considered for recognition as equivalent to this degree. As most education systems only have one advanced research qualification granting doctoral degrees or equivalent qualifications (ISCED 2011, par.270), the degree of Candidate of Sciences (Kandidat Nauk) of the former USSR counties is usually considered at the same level as the doctorate or PhD degrees of those countries. According to the Joint Statement by the Permanent Conference of the Ministers for Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder of the Federal Republic of Germany (Kultusministerkonferenz, KMK), German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the Ministry of General and Professional Education of the Russian Federation, the degree of Kandidat Nauk is recognized in Germany at the level of the German degree of Doktor and the degree of Doktor Nauk at the level of German Habilitation. The Russian degree of Kandidat Nauk is also officially recognized by the Government of the French Republic as equivalent to French doctorate. In Ukraine, the Supreme Certifying Commission (official English self-denomination, also known as Higher Attestation Commission or "VAK", Ukrainian: Вища атестаційна комісія України), before it was merged into the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine, would issue official international diploma supplements to holders of Ukrainian degrees of Kandydat Nauk (Candidate of Sciences, Ukrainian: кандидат наук) stating that the degree was "comparable to the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D." In several former Eastern Bloc countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary), in which the Candidate of Sciences degrees used to be modeled after the Soviet ones, those degrees have been replaced with Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degrees, with the recognition of the essential equivalency between the old and the new degrees.

According to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) 2011, for purposes of international educational statistics, Kandidat Nauk (Candidate of Sciences) belongs to ISCED level 8, or "doctoral or equivalent", together with PhD, DPhil, D.Lit, D.Sc, LL.D, Doctorate or similar. It is mentioned in the Russian version of ISCED 2011 (par.262) on the UNESCO website as an equivalent to PhD belonging to this level. In the same way as PhD degrees awarded in many English-speaking countries, Kandidat Nauk (Candidate of Sciences) allows its holders to reach the level of the Associate Professor (Docent) The second doctorate (or post-doctoral degree) in some post-Soviet states called Doctor of Sciences (Russian: доктор наук - Doktor Nauk) is given as an example of second advanced research qualifications or higher doctorates in ISCED 2011 (par.270) and is similar to Habilitation in Germany, Poland and several other countries. It constitutes a higher qualification compared to PhD as against the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) or Dublin Descriptors./

Available specialties are:

03.00.07-microbiology (biological sciences)
03.00.06-virology (biological sciences)
03.00.20-biotechnology (microbial, biological sciences)

Postgraduate course exists in two forms – full-time and extramural education whereas doctoral course has only full-time form of education.

The training period is 3 years for full-time time education both for postgraduate and doctoral courses and 4 years for extramural education.

Entrance to the postgraduate courses is according to the competition by the results of preliminary examinations in specialty, philosophy and foreign language (at choice English, German, French, Spain). The right to enter the postgraduate courses belongs to persons with higher education (magister or specialist diploma) in the field of biology and allied sciences.

The right to enter the doctoral courses belongs to candidates of biological sciences which have a number of scientific publications of the chosen specialty and are able to carry out the scientific investigations on the high scientific level.

Postgraduates and doctorates studying by public order receive state scholarships. During full-time postgraduate and doctoral education hostel is provided.

Laboratory of quality control of biological products

Laboratory of quality control of biological preparations is part of the Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology, NAS of Ukraine and went since 2009.

The Laboratory carries out control over the quality and safety of medical immunobiological preparations, such as probiotics, adjuvant (cell lysates), preparations from donor’s blood plasma: immunoglobulins, albumins, recombinant immunobiological preparations (interferons, interleukins), etc.

The chief laboratory is Dr. S.D. Zagorodnya, authorised person of quality control – corr.-member of NAS of Ukraine N.K. Kovalenko.

The structure of LQCBP of IMV of NAS of UKRAINE:

  • Sector of Microbiological Researches
