In 1988 in Zabolotny Institute of Microbiology and Virology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine the laboratory of microbiological processes is created on solid surfaces is created, that in 1997 was reorganized in the same name department. A founder and leader of this subdivision is a doctor of biological sciences, professor I.К.Kurdish. Basic direction of scientific activity of department is research of interaction of methanotrophic, nitrogen-fixing, phosphate-mobilizing and other microorganisms with solid surfaces, including with nanomaterials of different nature, and also with components agroecosystems.
Undertaken studies showed that interaction of microorganisms with solid surfaces, including nanomaterials of different origin, rendered noticeable influence on physiological and biochemical activity of populations: promoted their growing and enzyme activity, synthesis of biologically active substances etc. One of the factors stimulating these processes is an increase of mass transfer of oxygen at bringing of nanomaterials in a liquid media. At presence of in her nanoparticles of cells enter with them into junction coupling. As a result of it on the surface of bacteria the protective layer of nanoparticles is created, that promoted their stability to the unfavorable factors of environment, including to the supraoptimal temperatures. The results of researches became basis of biotechnology the increase of exit of living cells in dry bacterial preparations at their spray-type insiccation, which is implementing at the Kyiv plant of medical preparations VO "Ukrbiochempreparation".
Ionogenic determinants of surface of some bacteria are certain, conditioning electro-superficial properties of cells and their adhesion to solid materials. The important role of hydrophobic property of bacteria is set in their co-operating with solid materials and is defined common factors of adhesion of pure and mixed cultures of methanotrophs are certain to the rock formations and other materials, their colonization by these microorganisms. Technology of decline of methane release is worked out in coal mines, based on oxidization of methane acting from mine-out spaces, by the bacteria immobilized on a rock formation. This technology is approved on the row of mines of Donbas. Her application allows bringing down methane release from mine-out spaces of mines on 40-60 % substantially to promote safety of labour of miners.
The high-activity strains of nitrogen-fixing bacteria of Azotobacter vinelandii IMV V-7076 and phosphate-mobilizing bacteria of Bacillus subtilis IMV V-7023, that, along with ability to mobilize a phosphate from organic and sparingly soluble inorganic compounds, is characterized by high antagonistic activity to the phytopathogenic bacteria and mushrooms, of selected. These strains are produce of plant hormones and other biologically active substances. The Bacillus subtilis IMV V-7023, except phytohormones, accumulation in the media are connections of phenolic nature, including 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid.
Researches of physiology, biochemistry of selected strains of Azotobacter vinelandii IMV V-7076 and Вacillus subtilis IMV V-7023, features of their co-operating with clay minerals became scientific basis of development the biotechnology of creation of granulated bacterial preparation with complex action of Azogran, that substantially improves a growth and development of plants and promotes the productivity of vegetable, technical and cereal cultures on 18-37 %.
The primary stages of co-operation of bacteria-components of bacterial preparation with complex action are investigational, with plants (them chemotactic properties, common factors of adhesion to the roots etc.). It is set that bringing of nanoparticles in the suspension of bacteria is accompanied by the increase of their chaotic mobility and decline of chemotaxis, that, probably, it contingently blocking of receptors of chemotaxis on the surface of cells these particles. In the mixed culture of Azotobacter vinelandii and Вacillus subtilis chemotaxis of bacilli goes down considerably. It is set that it contingently blocking of receptors of chemotaxis on their surface the exopolysaccharide complex of azotobacter. The cells of Azotobacter vinelandii and Вacillus subtilis are poorly adhesion to solid materials. However to the surface of roots of plants they attach in significant quantities. Their adhesive properties up to a point are determined by mobility of cells and features of their surface. A presence and carbohydrate specificity of lectins on the surface of bacilli, and also their considerable role are set in adhesion of Вacillus subtilis to the roots of plants.
Normative documentation is worked out and ratified on preparation Azogran that is registered in Ukraine. A license to his production is sold NPF "ROVIAL" and "Enzyme". Development of scientific bases of creation of microbial preparations of new generation for a plant-grower awarded with bonus the name of D. K. Zabolotnogo, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In the department were qualified of 6 candidates of sciences. The employees of department are published 5 monographs and more than 200 advanced studies, 14 patents are including got. 22 articles are published in foreign magazines.
